What a kid wants . . . at CAMP!
Think camp! Think fun! Think about what you want in a camp before you sign
up. All kinds of camps from all over the country are waiting for you to visit,
stay, and play! Make a smart choice about the camp you visit. To help you pick
the camp that's right for you, ask yourself these questions:
- Where do I want to go to camp? Do I like mountains, oceans, the North,
South, East, West, Midwest? Do I want to stay close to home? Do I want to travel
some distance away from my home?
- Do I want to go to a traditional camp that gives me a wide variety of
experiences or do I want to go to a specialty camp that focuses on a particular
activity or set of skills?
- Do I want to go to a camp that has a large number of campers or a smaller
camp? What makes me feel comfortable?
- Do I want to go to sleep-away camp and sleep in a tent or a cabin or a
modern conference center?
- Do I want to be busy all the time with activities that are planned for me
everyday, or do I want to choose my activities?
- Do I want to sleep in my own bed every night? A day camp may be your best
choice.
- Am I ready to be away from home overnight? Consider a resident camp.
- Do I want to take trips and travel with a community of campers?
- How long do I want to be at camp? One week? Eight weeks?
- How can I stay in touch with my family or friends when I am away at camp?
Does the camp allow snail mail, cell phones, pagers, faxes, or e-mail? Does the
camp have parent visitation days?
- How will the camp meet my special dietary or physical needs?
- How much money can I spend for camp this year? Hey, don't worry, nearly 65
percent of ACA's accredited camps offer scholarships.
Once you have answered these questions, visit ACA's
Camp Database to search for the camp of your dreams!
