Paid Publicity Offers – What to Do?
As businesses, camps can often be solicited by promotional companies, including advertising agencies and "pay to play" video production firms, for potential publicity opportunities. Sales pitches can be received through telephone solicitation, mail, and e-mail. With all of these promotional opportunities, from national marketing and public relations firms to local advertising agencies, it is important for you as a potential buyer of these services to do your due diligence by asking the right questions before investing in any paid publicity endeavors.

Ask key questions, for example, of a solicitor of a "pay to play" video production firm, such as: "Can your company provide an affidavit for the programs they've produced that have actually run and document where they have been aired?" and "What is your company's placement success?" Confirm pricing as well as any guaranteed placement. Promotional advertising, whether print or broadcast, can be an expensive venture. Be sure you are well-armed with as much information as possible.
